He admitted that gave him confidence heading into Wimbledon, and after beating Aleksander Orlikowski and Joao Victor Couto Loureiro in the opening rounds, Pinnington-Jones was given a run out on No 3 Court against Kalin Ivanovski in the third round.

Murray mentors all of these athletes, and Pinnington-Jones has cherished the experience of learning from the former world No 1 and three-time grand-slam champion.

“We hit a bit on the clay as well, it was very enjoyable and you can see he still wants to play and loves it. It’s refreshing.”

Having admitted he was “very, very nervous” about the prospect of playing on No 3, the bump up to No 1 – after two ladies’ doubles matches – will give Pinnington-Jones an early taste of what it is like to play on one of Wimbledon’s main courts.

“The direct link to Andy is priceless, especially with his experience. He’s a great guy, wants British tennis to push on, and he’s really trying to support everyone. It has been amazing.”

“I’m really enjoying it,” Pinnington-Jones said. “They [the agency] have been great so far, they’ve done everything they said they would which is amazing.

“Jack is talented and is someone I have trained with a bit over the past few years. He’s got potential and the attributes to have a successful career and we are looking forward to helping him on that journey.”

Pinnington-Jones has also had the chance to hit with Murray and pick up first-hand tips from the two-time Wimbledon winner.

He added: “It has been really good. When I hit with him at Wimbledon on the hard [courts], we were discussing backhands and where he aims, where he wants to be contacting the ball. Just [learning from] his own mindset, how he plays these shots and listening to the way he approaches and thinks about these moments.

Now a quarter-final on No 3 Court awaits the youngster on Friday evening, just hours after he won his third-round encounter.

Pinnington-Jones won 7-5 6-0, and given the backlogged schedule he was then pencilled in for a quarter-final on the same day with the unseeded American Victor Lilov on No 1 Court.

Fellow Brit Emma Raducanu twice sampled No 1 Court in the ladies’ singles having been handed a wildcard, and Pinnington-Jones praised her “special” run to the fourth round, adding she handled the experience “really well” after retiring hurt on Monday.

Whether he follows in her footsteps and earns a wildcard next year, we will just have to wait and see.

The 18-year-old is the No 1 British junior, ranked No 7 in the global ITF rankings, and therefore the No 7 seed heading into the championships.

Pinnington-Jones arrived at Wimbledon having just won the junior title at Roehampton, where he beat Spaniard Daniel Rincon 6-2 5-7 6-3 in the final.

Pinnington-Jones is part of the 77 Sports Management agency, co-owned by Murray who mentors their young tennis stars.

Jack Pinnington-Jones signed with Andy Murray‘s management agency in May and is now eyeing Wimbledon glory in the boys’ singles two months later.

Pinnington-Jones, from Ashtead in Surrey, joined Murray’s 77 Sports Management agency earlier this year, a roster which also features Paul Jubb, Harriet Dart, Katie Swan and Aidan McHugh.
